DIY Boys Bedroom Motorcross Wall Art

I have been playing working in just about every room in the house lately. One of my bad traits, jumping around doing a little bit of everything.
Today I did a little something in my boys room.
Remember when I showed you the Disney Cars Murals I painted....
Well I repainted over all of that hard work a few weeks ago. We are all big fans of Motorcross, so the boys decided on a Motorcross themed bedroom. Finding bedroom accessories has been a royal pain in my..head. There really is nothing. I don't want to go the "poster" route and I wasn't sure how much I liked the vinyl wall decals. They have a large empty wall with nothing on it. I may add some shelving later on...another day. *wink* But for now I came up with this.....

I went to Michael's today and found...
Artist's Loft Super Value Canvas Packs. 16-inch x 20-inch, 5-pack for $19.99. You betcha I had my handy little 40% off coupon. I scored totally today!

These sizes were also available for $19.99
8-inch x 10-inch, 10-pack
11-inch x 14-inch, 7-pack

When I got home I had already collected everything I needed to make these.
  • Spray Paint
  • Sharpie Marker
  • Magazine images
  • Modge Podge
  • Internet Clip art
  • Diet Pepsi
I started by Spray Painting all 3 canvas's Red.

Printed out some silhouette Dirt Bike clip art I found off the web. I used card stock paper for sturdiness while I traced the image..(caus member I don't have a machine to do it for me..sad face)

I wasn't feeling the hand painting technique today. I wanted a QUICK DIY wall art. So I turned to my BFF....

Traced the images and colored them in....maybe once the ink has set for a bit I will go back and do another layer of sharpie.

Next I took all the magazine clippings we have been collecting and arranged them onto the 3rd canvas *pre Modge Podge* When I found a design I liked I began applying the M.P. Now M.P and I have a love hate relationship...sometimes I love how things come out and other time I really hate that it bubbles. Oh well...whats the saying..."wrinkles add character" ????? I think it looks o.k. The boys love it and that's all that matters.

So for now, this is the inexpensive artwork that is on my rugrats wall.

Only $11.99 plus tax for 5 canvas's...and I still have 2 extra to play with....
What to do, what to do....

Thrift Store Chair...wicka wicka...REMIX!

You liked that little turn table remix didn't ya! *wink*

Anywhoooo...member me..the old Thrift Chair with the mustard seat cushion?

I haz taken on a new life form

Fresh Coat of paint.
I primed with Rustoleum Primer

Painted with Rustoleum Spray Paint in Satin Blossom White. (Image shown is Heirloom White)

Lightly glazed the nooks and crannies using Valspar Tintable Glaze in Black. *This is not tinted when you purchase, you have to take it to the paint counter for mixture*

(Duckie doesn't approve of the glaze..."its dirty")

Recovered the cushion with a Calico printed fabric from Joanns Fabrics

I found this Sewing Machine Cabinet on the side of the road, dumpster bound. It was hideous...someone didn't love it anymore. I saw the beauty in this beast. Brought it home and cleaned the cobwebs off...The Love nicely "rolled his eyes". With a little sanding, paint and glaze she's a GEM! Looks like these two junk finds are a match! *inserting Swifter Commercial song*

St. Pattys Day Treats

What a way to CELEBRATE St. Patricks day...
Nom Nom on some Rainbow Cuppie Cakes

Silly Bubba Love

Bam Bam Bino and his classic fruit punch mustache

Root Beer Floats and Rainbow Cuppie Cakes.
(Nom Nom, Slurp Slurp)

To make these cup cakes: Follow the directions on the white cake mix box. Evenly separate the cake mix into 6 cups. One for each color, ROYGBV. To obtain the rainbow colors add the listed number of drops into each cup of cake mix.
Drops of Food Coloring info
Red: 18 drops of Red food coloring
Orange: 12 drops of Yellow food coloring and 4 drops of Red food coloring
Yellow: 12 drops of Yellow food coloring
Green: 12 drops of Green food coloring
Blue: 12 drops of Blue food coloring
Violet: 9 drops of Red food coloring and 6 drops of Blue food coloring

After you are done mixing your batter color combos, line your cup cake pan with 16 liners...(I used a 14 cupcake pan, that's why mine are huge!) Evenly distribute each color in rainbow layers...ROYGBV. This is a little time consuming but as you go smooth each layer with a frosting spatula. (attention not to mix the colors)

Bake your cup cakes as directed on the cake mix box.

Frosting Options: Whip Cream for a white cloud effect. We used regular Betty Crocker frosting, mainly because the kids like to lick the container when we are done (have NO idea who gave them that idea...Guilty) then they added rainbow sprinkles to the tops.

The kids and I had a great time making these cupcakes. Holidays should be fun, create memories and share laughter. Throw sprinkles at each other, go above and beyond...because in 18 years, the kids will be grown up and out of the house. I can look back, smile and know that we made fun memories. *tear*

PB Inspired Moss Letter

*Pottery Barn*

In the recent Pottery Barn Catalog I saw these and loved them. Ya, but not for $79.

So I made this...

I went to Ol' Faithful Joanns Crafts and Dollar Tree. I purchased the paper mache initial for $2.99 and the moss sheets from Dollar Tree $2.00. With a little measuring, cutting and some hot glue, I came up with my own initial for our mantle.

I love Pottery Barn ideas!

Thrifting...

Driving down the road and I hear a little voice say "turn into the the Parking Lot and run into Salvation Army" Could it be...the little Thrifting Fairy? Of course we HAVE to listen when She speaks. Boy am I glad I did... cause this beauty was there waiting for me. (excited happy dance..BEEP BEEP)
err, as you can see, I still have the dresser waiting to be worked on...the LOVE was thrilled I added yet another project in his garage. LOVE YOU BABE! (wink)

I think this was a great price for an old chair....
The cushion says 1929..not too shabby. I cant wait to get this beauty painted and in Duckies room.

Grannys Vintage Dresser

Hi, my name is Andrea and I am a repeat offender for starting multiple projects at one time, never fully completing one and easily distracted by a red laser light. Whew! Now that I have openly admitted that...moving on....

We have lived in our home for 3 years. When we moved in I painted Duckies room, semi-decorated it and then was distracted by that laser. Well, her room has sat half done since. This February I decided I was going to finish it! I'VE GOT TO MISTER! (love Ace Ventura)

Step 1 to redecorating the Ducks room: My sister recently asked me if I wanted Grannys old bedroom set...psh uh YA! Perfect timing...Duckie needed a new bedroom set. Sis said Grannys set had been "sitting in the garage" and the headboard...*gasp* had been OUTSIDE on the side of the house. (<~ insert shaking head to clear foggy "What the") I had no idea what I was in for, but it was Grannys old set, Duckie needed a new one and I wanted it.

This is what I found.......

Sob Sob Sob...Puzzle??..No its the Headboard. Please Please Refurbish Gods be with me on this.

Seriously there are at least 6 layers of paint on this...lime green and pink are one of them. I didn't know Granny was THAT Groovy !?!

I am in LOVE with these dresser pulls and knobs...sadly some were broken beyond repair.

I have my work cut out for me. I can do it, put mah back into it....uhhh. Please no Red Laser Light Show for a few weeks so I can get this done...k..thanks!

Alice in Wonderland Birthday Table Center Piece

HERE is one table center piece that I threw together for Duckies Birthday Party. I didn't want just a table with boring plates and a little bit of that messy sparkly stuff called confetti. So I came up with
THIS! ~~~~>

Dollar Store flowers, glued into a cubed floral foam, then attached to a fabric covered "repurposed" postal box.
Added detail to some flowers by hot gluing googly eyes.

Used the kids foam stickers "were all mad here"

Tulle I had on hand...attached to add funky swag. Plastic Tea Set from Targets $1 section, Internet Clip Art and my daughter and her friend added the beading. Which is floral wire attached to a skewer, then add the random beads, clasp the end and twist the beaded wire around a pencil to form a spiral. A cute little added sparkle. Plus the girls got to contribute with out touching the hot glue gun. No burn BONUS!

Mad Hatter Hat, constructed from a cake frosting container. I cut the container in half, felted over it and added some sparkle.

More Internet clip art splashed with glitter. Old deck of cards glued together to form a eye catching arch.
Inexpensive table center piece. It was fun to make and fun to look at. The possibilities are endless with this theme.
 WERE ALL MAD HERE!

Alice in Wonderland Birthday Banner

It has been way too long since I have had ANY time to post anything...therefore...my Bloggy To do list is insanely backed up.  Currently we are planning my daughters 9th birthday party...Alice in Wonderland theme. I have searched the local party stores and browsed online for party decorations, only to repeatedly come across a "Poker" theme to be used as the Queen of Hearts. Eh not what we had in mind. So I have been making all the party decorations.

This is Duckies Birthday Banner (which will be hung by the candy buffet) and Thank You banner (hung over the Guests goodie bags). Both banners were made from scrapbooking supplies I had on hand, images I printed from the Internet, left over ribbon from my hair bow business and extra party streamers from previous birthdays. Everything I had on hand....I still haven't been able to convince the LOVE that I "WANT"  ...err that I really NEED one of those fancy smancy Cricut Machines. So for now, I cut the old fashioned way...very tediously. <-insert eye roll here! There's not really a "how to" to this project. I just cut and measured to the size I wanted then layered everything. Under the captions I did add small pcs of foam to make them pop off the banner.

Please don't judge the back drop for this photo...it is another "project" I am working on for the Wonderland Party...you are seeing it in its beginning stages...I haven't seen anything like it yet in the party blogger world. So I hope it comes out the way I see it in mah head! Also...my shadow  ehh dog decided to sit on the "H" after I added the glitter. So its a little extra sparkly in some areas...like my dawgs booteh.
